Artificial intelligence editing

Imagine you are just from a photo shoot and your memory card has tonnes of images, you place the mem card in your card reader and you take a break. When you come back to your studio or at your desk, you get to see only the best images that you took during the day. These photos are not just the images you took time to ensure that they had the perfect focus or exposure, they are the best images collected from your camera.

Next up, your software does all the editing for you because it knows how you like to adjust the skin tone, the sharpness on the landscapes, your attention to detail, your interest in noise-free images and where you like to place contrast in a photo. Additionally, your images get tagged and all you need to do it just add your personal touch and you are good to go. This is not a fantasy, it is something that is happening, thanks to Photo Lemur that launched its new AI-powered application this year.

Bluetooth social posting

Instagram is the home for photographs in the world. As much as we want to get our images from all photographic devices, getting images from a DSLR camera has been a challenge. As much as pro cameras cannot load images directly to Instagram, they can transfer the images automatically to a phone without much effort. This wireless capability comes to play thanks to BLE, Bluetooth Low Energy.

Although BLE was developed to enable IoT, Internet of Things, it can be used to pair up digital cameras with smartphones and initiate the transfer of images. BLE was first adopted by Nikon as it marketed this feature under the brand name “SnapBridge”. Other companies like Fujifilm later on followed.

The rebirth of film cameras

Film cameras are back again, but with the much more analog aspect on the camera and instant film. As much as we have seen new developments on the 35mm stocks, we have not seen new hardware film. Ismail Sirdah hopes that there is going to be a change in 2018.

At first glance, the Super 8 mm Kodak movie camera is coming out in 2018 for purchase. Bellamy Hunt, a photographer is coming up with a new 35mm camera that will be taking still photos and it will be launched in the fall of 2018. Another company known as Reflex is also coming up with a 35mm camera for its Kickstarter campaign.

The electronic shutter

Nikon and Canon in 2016 came up with DSLR cameras that shot 12 and 14 fps (frames per second) respectively. Sony in 2017 pushed the envelope to 20fps and to 24fps. The secret to this was the electronic shutter. Although it is not a new concept, the improvements in its development will seal the cracks that allow shutter distortions and become useful when capturing super fast shots.

Apart from the speed advantage, the electronic shutters also have an added advantage when you compare them to the mechanical ones. There is no clogging when you shoot using the electronic shutter cameras because there are no moving components, allowing you not to have shaky photos. The future is bright for cameras that have electronic shutters which have silent shoots and enable you to take super fast photos.

Blockchain Technology

Photographers are usually wary of photo theft. In a survey done by Pixsy in 2016, approximately 64% of photographers have admitted that at some point in time, their images have been stolen. Although it is tough to stop this practice, Ismail Sirdah says that Blockchain technology is going to help photographers prosecute image thieves.
